Jonathan Portney is a highly accomplished public health executive with extensive experience in health services, community engagement, disaster and emergency response, clinical care, leadership, social determinants of health, public health, infectious diseases, environmental health, stakeholder engagement, collaboration, health disparities, and government relations. With a Master of Science in Global Public Health from Loma Linda University and a Bachelor of Science in Behavioral Psychology & Buisness Administration from Cazenovia College, Jonathan has demonstrated expertise in managing diverse and complex departments within health organizations.
Throughout his career, Jonathan has been dedicated to fostering community-based resilience and improving health outcomes. As a Public Health Division Director, Health Services Director, and Medical Health Operations Area Coordinator in Lake County, he supervised various departments and programs (Health Services, Public Health, Emergency Management, First 5 California, Veterans Affairs, Environmental Health, Public Health Nursing, California Children Services – CCS), managing a diverse staff and budget. He worked closely with multiple health agencies and neighboring counties to ensure effective emergency response, evacuation activities, and high-quality care for all residents.
In addition to his local accomplishments, Jonathan has also demonstrated his expertise as a community health expert on an international scale, most recently serving as a rural mobile health provider in Sierra Leone, West Africa. This experience allowed him to make a significant impact on underserved communities by improving access to healthcare and expanding the reach of essential health services. His work in Sierra Leone showcased his adaptability and ability to collaborate with various stakeholders in diverse cultural settings, further enhancing his skills in global public health.
